How To Repair Christmas Ornaments When Not Properly Stored

Understanding the Importance of Properly Storing Christmas Ornaments

Every year, once Christmas is over, this starts the task of getting everything put away for the following year. Yes, it is tedious. However, if you do not do this properly, you may find that you have nothing but a mess when you get out your Christmas ornaments to use for the next year. Sadly, that is where many people find themselves. The good news is that when you have certain issues with your Christmas ornaments that are due to not properly storing these, you may be able to repair the damage and use these again. However, if these Christmas ornaments are completely broken, such as if a large box ended up smashing these to nothing but dust, then there is no repair, you simply have to buy new.

Common Problems with Improperly Stored Ornaments

One of the issues that some people find is that their Christmas ornaments have a sticky residue on them. What is this? This could be nothing more than dust that had settled onto the ornaments, and then with the changes in temperature as they were stored, it turned into something that basically feels like tape residue. When this happens, you can clean the Christmas ornaments. We suggest starting with a wet rag and seeing how that goes. However, if the sticky residue continues to stay, then you may have to use some gentle soap. If that still doesn’t solve the problem, then it is time to pull out the harsher cleaners. Consider Goo Gone to help remove the sticky residue. However, you do have to be aware that with more harsh chemicals, there is a chance that the color could be affected. But, at this point, you cannot hang these Christmas ornaments onto a tree when they are that sticky, so you have nothing to lose.

The second issue saw a lot is ink that has rubbed off onto these Christmas ornaments. This is why you are going to want to always pack these in packing paper that has no ink on it. When ink gets onto the ornament, you may be able to simply wipe this away with soap and water. However, there are those who end up having to use a Magic Eraser to remove this, and in doing so, they often fade the paint and detail as well.

What about cracked ornaments? If the ornament is simply cracked, then take a little super glue and run this around the crack. When you hang this, be sure to place the crack towards the tree rather than away. While this is not going to help to make this ornament stronger, it could help you to avoid it fully breaking later, as the super glue can hold the pieces together.

Overall, there are a lot of issues that can happen when you don’t properly pack Christmas ornaments. For this reason, you want to take the extra time to ensure you pack these ornaments right to avoid more work when you go to hang these on your tree.
